Cultural heritage tourism path development of the Ligatne’s Paper Factory village

Local scale implementation of the project is benefit for the local inhabitants as well are basis for local development. At the international level project is within this significance role, because Ligatne’s heritage centre and Paper Factory is the only wooden building 19th industrial complex in Europe, attracting many country national cultural interest and protecting local cultural heritage.

Project “Cultural heritage tourism path development of the Ligatne’s Paper Factory village” is implemented by the municipality of Ligatne. At the year 2007 municipality started project to identify Ligatne’s Paper Factory historical centre, to found out solutions of the centre efficiency for local people and to develop historical part of the village. For activity were attracted ERDF resources. 

Evidence of success

There were preserved and protected cultural heritage asset. As well as attracted approximately 1000 visitors to cultural heritage asset per year. In July, 2011 the Līgatne Paper Factory’s historical village won the competition of European Commission’s EDEN (European Destinations of Excellence) Project Competition for the most outstanding tourist destination in Latvia.
